Fox Fellow brings insight and perspective to role
As the Coordinator for NEWCITY Neighborhood Partnership, Ciara Stein is investing time and hard work to benefit New Orleans, particularly in the Tremé/Lafitte, Tulane/Gravier, and Seventh Ward neighborhoods. Ciara is the sixth coordinator to come to NEWCITY through the University of Pennsylvania’s Fox Fellowship program. The fellowship, in partnership with Providence Community Housing, aims to increase community impact and community partnership through data collection, resident/community outreach, program coordination, and knowledge sharing.
Prior to this role, Ciara studied Urban Studies, Fine Arts and History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania. She was involved in numerous campus publications, relating to social impact and arts & culture, in addition to interning at various non-profit arts organizations.
Outside of coordinating NEWCITY’s monthly meetings, Ciara will spend time focused on the Parcel Survey and Community Impact Measures (also known as residential survey data). Providence has conducted three sets of parcel survey data since 2008 and completed its third** (the initial CIM was compiled to create Providence’s 5-year Community Services plan), the second and third years have been expanded to include more community change and public health indicators) compilation of Community Impact Measurement data sets this year. The collaborative is researching ways to share the rich-content data that has been collected.
Each month members of the local community meet at Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center to share information and ideas about projects, programs, and policies that are affecting the community.
